Kamareddy: The family and relatives of a couple staged a demonstration at Kamareddy District Hospital on Monday alleging negligence by doctors in delivery which resulted in the death of a new born child. The protestors sought action against the ‘negligent’ doctors.

Radha, wife of Satyanarayana, residents of Beedi Workers Colony in Kamareddy, was admitted for delivery at the Kamareddy District Hospital. Dr Shirisha was in-charge and Radha delivered a male child on Saturday. However, the infant is believed to have swallowed amniotic fluid. Dr Shirisha, it is alleged, did not inform the parents about it. Later, the hospital Resident Medical Officer Dr Srinivas brought this to the notice of the Satyanarayana and advised them to take the child to Niloufer hospital in Hyderabad. The infant, however, died on the way.

Angry relatives gathered at the hospital and raised slogans against the hospital doctors and staged a  protest. Satyanarayana alleged that it was due to the negligence of doctors that the infant swallowed amniotic fluid and choked to death.

Dr Srinivas, describing the incident as unfortunate, assured the family that disciplinary action would be initiated against Dr. Shirisha if she was found guilty of negligence.
