Hyderabad: Sheshana, one of the close aides of slain renegade Maoist Nayeemuddin alias Nayeem, continues to evade the police dragnet after the latter was killed in an encounter at Millennium Township in Shadnagar in August, 2016.
Though senior police officials have been time and again expressing confidence on nabbing Sheshana as early as possible, he continued to remain untraceable since 2016. Following information that he was taking shelter between Mahabubnagar and Kurnool borders, the Telangana police are said to have launched a hunt to nab him.
There were also rumours that Sheshana, who is in mid 50s and a native of Mannunuru village of Achampet in Mahabubnagar district, was hiding in Nallamalla forest as he used to maintain close contact with red sanders smugglers. Such was his faith in Sheshana that Nayeem used to venture out only after getting clearance from him.
Sheshana used to scout the area where Nayeem was supposed to visit and only after a green signal from him, Nayeem would come out with his associates. “Nayeem used to share all information with Sheshana and after his advice only, he would take up a task,” an official said.
Both Nayeem and Sheshana played a key role in the killing of IPS officer K S Vyas at LB Stadium in January 1993. Sheshana was specialized in conducting recce of targets and triggering landmine blasts when he was with CPI (Maoist).
He also played a key role in land grabbing and settlements that were carried out by Nayeem and earned crores of rupees. The Special Investigation Team (SIT) that was constituted to probe Nayeem’s activities is suspecting the role of Sheshana in issuing a statement recently in the name of Kranti Sena criticizing Nayeem’s encounter.
Nayeem reportedly attended the party that was hosted by Sheshana a day before the encounter at Millennium Township in Shadnagar.
