Warangal Urban: Telangana Premier Kabaddi (TPK) saw a grand start on Saturday at Warangal Indoor Stadium. Minister for Sports T Padma Rao, BJP leader and Telangana Kabaddi Association chairman G Kishan Reddy, Telangana Kabaddi Association president Kasani Gyaneshwar, Police Commissioner G Sudheer Babu and several others attended the inaugural programme.
Padma Rao congratulated Chinthal Sports and Telangana Kabaddi Association for their efforts and initiatives.
“Kabaddi being a cultural icon of this country, we should all come forward to bring it back to our hinterland and promote the game and players. I assert that our government will take all measures to promote the game with all required support,” he said.
Praveen Reddy, a promoter of the event, said, “It is a historic moment for the sports fraternity in Warangal and we are all happy to see the city take off in the league. The event is all set to see exciting contests among eight teams representing eight cities of the State.”
Officially approved by the Telangana Kabaddi Association, the 16-day long Telangana Premier Kabaddi league is being held till February 7 in Warangal and Karimnagar.
A total of eight teams and 112 top professional athletes chosen from across Telangana will take part in this prestigious league.
The opening matches were played between Karimnagar Kings and Rangareddy Raiders while the other match of the inaugural day was played between Nalgonda Eagles and host team Warangal Warriors.
