Hyderabad: The School Education Department is redefining the way administration could be made easier using WhatsApp. It has been using two WhatsApp groups — ‘Dedicated Instructions School’ and ‘Dedicated Instructions School Complaints’ — for issuing instructions and receiving action-taken reports from the Commissioner to mandal officers level.
The idea of utilising the reach and ease of WhatsApp groups is the brainchild of Education Department Secretary B Janardhan Reddy, who has passed on 100 instructions since the inception of the groups on April 28 this year till the last count on Wednesday. The purpose of these groups was to improve the quality of education and enrollment in government schools.
Some instructions that were passed on via the groups include honouring of students with 100 per cent attendance and those secured 10/10 Grade Point Average in SSC Public Examinations 2019, starting donor corner (CSR portal) for taking up developmental activities in government schools, maintaining daily, weekly and monthly tentative schedules from the Commissioner to mandal-level officers, and starting kitchen gardens in Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalayas. All the district and mandal educational officers were also directed to visit any government school at the time of prayer.
This apart, the department, via WhatsApp, has been conducting a regular review of the Mid-Day Meal scheme implemented in government schools.
One group is dedicated for issuing instructions while officers concerned can use the second group to acknowledge the instructions and share the action-taken reports.
“Passing on instructions through the files is a time-consuming process. Nowadays, everyone is using WhatsApp. Through the groups, instructions can be sent to the officers concerned within seconds. This will help increase productivity in work. As the GHMC Commissioner, I passed more than 800 instructions to officers concerned through WhatsApp groups,” Reddy said.
Apart from using WhatsApp, the department has also instructed its officials to go for paperless administration and opt for an e-office system. This is expected to be materialised by October 2, officials said.
