Telangana: Teachers urged to rise to international standards

Warangal Rural: Commissioner, Collegiate Education and Technical Education, Navin Mittal has urged teachers to ensure that students put their knowledge into application and also inculcate analytical skills. He also stressed on the need for fusion of online and offline methods of teaching in the post-Covid-19 era to derive the best results in the field of education.

Addressing a valedictory session of a two-week national level online faculty development programme (FDP) on “Skill Development and Competency Enhancement” organised by the management of the Government Degree College (GDC), Parkal, on Tuesday, Mittal has urged the participants to join online courses being offered by different varsities at the international level to improve their skills and competence. “I also urge you to look at the best international teachers and try to bring the best elements into your teaching for the benefit of the students,” he added.

He also stressed on the need for the use of ‘smart class rooms’ to offer the best learning experience for the students.  He appreciated Principal (FAC) and Convenor of the FDP Dr D Thiruvengala Chary for organizing a national level FDP using the virtual platform.  Mittal also lauded the faculty members of the colleges in the State stating that 92 percent of them had taken to the online method of teaching considering the prevailing conditions caused by the pandemic Covid-19.

Professor VK Shrotriya from Delhi School of Economics has appealed to the teachers to learn, unlearn, and relearn to develop their skills and competence. “You need to read a lot. If you don’t read, you will become irrelevant.” He, however, lamented over the poor communication skills of the majority of the teachers across the nation.

Dr Bala Bhaskar, Academic Guidance Officer (AGO) at the office of Commissionerate of the Collegiate Education (CCE) also said that online FDPs are the need of the hour.   Principal, GDC, Parkal, and Convenor of the FDP Dr D Thiruvengala Chary said that 680 faculty members across the nation had enrolled their names for the FDP and eminent resource persons from eight States have delivered their lecture/talks at the FDP. Co-convenor and Assistant Professor of English Dr Naveen Mallam has moderated the programme.
