Hyderabad: The Department of Heavy Industries (DHI) Government of India has allocated 118 Electric Vehicle (EV) Public Charging Stations for Hyderabad and ten each for Warangal and Karimnagar districts under Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Electric vehicles (FAME) scheme phase 2. The charging stations in the State will be installed by Rajasthan Electronics and Instruments Ltd (REIL), National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) and Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL).
The TSREDCO (Telangana State Renewable Energy Development Corporation Ltd) which is the State nodal agency has signed MoUs with the agencies that are shortlisted by the DHI. The State government has given its consent in the month of February for the shortlisted agencies and they also received “in principle” sanction from the union government. The State is eagerly waiting for the final approval of the union government for setting up the charging stations in the State.
As per the allocations made by the union government, REIL will establish 37 EV Chargers in Hyderabad, 10 in Warangal and 10 in Karimnagar. NTPC will establish 32 in Hyderabad, EESL 49 in Hyderabad. Setting up of each station will cost around 30 lakhs but the union government is offering a 50 to 70 percent subsidy on each station.
TSREDCO has obtained the feasibility site lists along with the consent for installation of EV stations on suitable land lease basis, or Revenue Sharing model to Urban Local Bodies, and DISCOMs. The list of locations of charging stations was submitted to government agencies sanctioned by the DHI. The locations are concentrated mostly in Outer Ring Road (ORR) entry and exit junctions, Public Parking places, Parks and Discom sub stations in Hyderabad, Warangal and Karimnagar.
However, the Telangana government announced special tariff through TSERC (Telangana State Electricity Regulatory Commission) for EV charging stations in LT and HT consumers and the draft policy is currently under circulation.
Go Electric campaign
TSREDCO will be conducting ‘Go Electric Campaign’ to increase public awareness on electric mobility before the EV chargers are established. In this campaign the nodal agency will conduct workshops, road shows and media campaign for awareness in the public.
The TSREDCO was established as per section 53 of the AP Reorganization Act 2014, to act as a Nodal Agency for implementing all new and Renewable Energy Programmes and also nominated as State Designated Agency for implementing all Energy Conservation activities for Energy Security of the State.
The TSREDCO plans and prepares policies for promoting Renewable Energy and Energy Conservation activities, encourages and Promotes Renewable Energy activities and Imports, upgrades and adapts upcoming technologies.
