Hyderabad: In a move that could spell major relief for vehicle owners, the State Government issued orders regulating parking fee in commercial establishments, especially malls and multiplexes and the new orders will come into force from April 1.
As per the orders, no parking fee will have to be paid for the first 30 minutes. Likewise, no parking fee will be collected from vehicle owners from 30 minutes to one hour, if the vehicle owner produces bill of any amount as proof for shopping in the respective mall or multiplex. However, in case of other persons, the prescribed parking fee for the duration can be collected by the mall management.
More importantly, the order clarifies that if a vehicle owner has parked his vehicle for more than one hour and produces a bill or movie ticket to an amount, which is higher than the parking fee, then parking fee will not have to be paid.
There have been several complaints from vehicle owners over the exorbitant parking fee being collected by mall and multiplex managements. This apart, many have pointed out that there was no uniformity in parking fee charges.
Acting swiftly, Municipal Administration and Urban Development Principal Secretary Arvind Kumar issued the policy on parking via government orders on Tuesday regulating the parking fee in commercial establishments.
Arvind Kumar has also instructed the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) to take necessary penal action against any violations. Commercial establishments have also been directed to provide adequate number of off-street parking spaces as specified in building rules to meet the demand generated by their employees and visitors.
