Hyderabad: Young prodigies from Telangana, Adireddy Arjun and Akula Suhaas impressed by winning silver and bronze medals respectively in the National under-9 open chess championship held at Ahmedabad recently.
Arjun lost to Goutham Krishna of Kerala in the ninth round and came back strongly to win the next three rounds to bag the silver medal. With 1624 ELI ratings, he is trained by coach RB Ramesh.
Meanwhile, Akula Suhaas drew with G Aakash from Tamil Nadu in the tenth round and outscored Delhi’s Ashavath Mittal to achieve the bronze medal. G Akash emerged the winner of the tournament with 9.5 points. Telangana State Chess Association secretary K Siva Prasad congratulated the winners.
