Hyderabad: The Telugu Association of London TAL organized its 13th Ugadi Celebrations in Redbridge Town Hall, Ilford, London on Saturday with hundreds of Telugu families from the region participating in the colourful event.
TAL Ugadi 2017 convenor Srinivas Reddy inaugurated the celebrations in the presence of chairman Sri Satyendra Pagadala, vice chairman Sri Sridhar Medichetty, trustees Mallesh Kota, Nirmala Dhavala, Bharathi Kandukuri, Sridhar Somisetty, Srinivas Rao Kornepati and Kiran Kappeta.
The celebrations began with a presentation by Tal Culture Centre (TCC) music students and went on with a variety of dances and songs. A Carnatic vocal music performance by TCC Music teacher Veena Pani, a violin recital by Jyotsna and dance sequences by Sijju and Arunima were among the programmes, which were followed by a sumptuous spread that included the traditional Ugadi Pachadi and other delicious dishes.
Singers from Telugu film industry Gopika Purnima and Mallikarjun entertained the audience with a variety of songs while comedians Abi and Avinash too performed.
Chief Guest and actor Praneetha praised the work TAL is doing in preserving and promoting Telugu culture in the UK. Mike Gapes, MP for Ilford South and Soumendra Mahapatra from the Indian High Commission were also present.
A ‘Maa Telugu’ magazine, edited by Hema Macherla, too was released on the occasion. The celebrations were followed by the formal launch of the TAL Premier League 2017 cricket championship.
