Hyderabad: In a tragic incident, a 20-month-old boy drowned after he fell into a water sump at a playschool in Malkajgiri on Tuesday.
N Shiv Rachith is survived by his parents — N Anil Kumar and N Vishala – and his elder sister N Ananya (5) — a Class I student.
On Tuesday morning, Anil dropped Rachith at Bachpan playschool, which he joined in July. As the school was celebrating Children’s Day, the parents were asked to pick up their wards an hour earlier. Accordingly, Vishala reached the school around 11.25 am, but to her shock, she was informed that the boy was absent for the day.
She informed her husband, who alerted his friend Hari Krishna, and they started looking for Rachith on the school premises and nearby areas. A little while later, a school employee found Rachith in a sump.
The boy, a resident of RK Nagar, was declared dead by doctors of a private hospital after which the police were informed. Police registered a case under Section 304 (A) of the Indian Penal Code against the school and are investigating.
The body was handed over to the family after a post-mortem examination at Gandhi Hospital. Meanwhile, efforts are on to trace the school principal, Lekha, who is at large since the incident.
