Hyderabad: A stone pelting incident at Guwahati on a bus carrying the Australian cricket team has prompted the Rachakonda Police here to tighten security measures ahead of the team’s arrival here for the third T20 match scheduled for Friday.

With the team is expected to reach Hyderabad on Thursday, important locations like the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport in Shamshabad and the RGI Stadium in Uppal have been placed under strict security surveillance. Special police forces have been deployed to monitor the routes round the clock when the cricketers step out for the match and also for personal reasons.

“From the airport to the hotel, hotel to the stadium, stadium to hotel and hotel to airport, the players will be under tight security. They will be given security whenever they go out to visit the city as well,” a senior official said. In Guwahati, according to reports, a rock was thrown at the Australian team bus while the team was returning to their hotel from the Barsapara Stadium after Tuesday’s match with India.
