After a lull in the BO collections with the release of a few small-budget movies that failed to impress the Telugu audience, this month seems to have brought some respite and good omen to the industry. The movies that have released this month kept the box office ringing in Tinsel town.
The first movie to release to positive feedback and good box office openings was Samantha-Naga Chaitanya starrer Majili on April 5, followed by Sai Dharam Tej’s Chitralahari on April 12. Then came the much-awaited sports and emotional drama Jersey on April 19. Although Raghava Lawrence’s Kanchana 3 released along with Jersey on Friday without much hype and publicity, the horror-comedy went on to gross the Rs 3 crore in the first three days after its release in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, according to the industry sources.
Nani’s emotional drama Jersey too has done tremendously well with theatres and cine malls running with packed houses in the Telugu States and overseas. Director Goutham Tinnanuri managed to maintain the emotion in the sports story without abruptly ending it.
Majili, which also has a similar narrative of an aspiring cricketer, did well at the box office once again giving a decent hit to the couple Naga Chaitanya and Samantha. Sai Dharam Tej, who has been eagerly waiting for success as a hero in the industry, managed to pull the crowd in good numbers as a discouraged engineering graduate who dreams big in Chitralahari.
