Tough day for Indians in GM tourney

Hyderabad: In what turned out to be a tough day for the Indians, West Bengal’s Aryamann Sain went down fighting against Russian Grandmaster Smirnov Patel in the Hyderabad International Grand Master Tournament at Hotel Marriott on Wednesday.

Aryamann with an ELO rating of 2010 battled hard against Smirnov who has 2574 rating points in a game which ended in 42 moves. Meanwhile, Telangana’s Aditya Varun Gampa lost to IM Triapishko Alexandr from Russia. The game was completed in 34 moves.

Mushini Ajay from Andhra Pradesh, having an ELO rating of 1980 was beaten by GM Vasquez Schroeder Rodrigo of Chile. Ajay started the game with King’s Indian Attack while the opponent converted to Bogo Indian defence. Tajikistan IM Khusenkhojaev Muhammad also grabbed a point against Samal Ansuman of Odisha in a contest which lasted only 24 moves. Meanwhile, Iran GM Mosadeghpour Masoud defeated Praloy Sahoo of West Bengal in 43 moves.
