Khammam: Transport Minister P Ajay Kumar has stressed on the need for achieving qualitative change in Khammam city and the towns in the district through Pattana Pragathi programme.
He launched Pattana Pragathi here on Monday and riding a bicycle, visited several localities in Khammam city along with Mayor G Papalal, District Collector RV Karnan and Municipal Commissioner Anurag Jayanthi.
The Minister and the officials toured Cheruvu Bazaar, Jammibanda, Wyra Road, Bus Stand Centre, Rythu Bazaar, RDO Office, Traffic Police station, TTD Kalyana Mandapam areas in the city.
He interacted with the residents enquiring whether garbage is being lifted regularly and told the owners of vacant plots in residential colonies to clean their plots by removing weeds and garbage. If the open plots were not cleaned action would be taken against the owners, he warned.
The State government aims to identify lands for setting up vegetable and non-vegetarian markets and public toilets, focuses on removal of dilapidated structures, sanitation, intensifying Haritha Haram, filling up defunct bore wells as part of Pattana Pragathi, Ajay Kumar explained.
The Minister directed the officials to take steps to cover pot holes on internal roads, prevent water stagnation in low lying areas and to remove pedestals constructed by the side of roads.
He informed that in order to relocate street vendors a land was identified behinds the TTD Kalyana Mandapam, RDO Office. Dilapidated buildings on the premises of RDO Office and a forest department building on the opposite side have to be removed, he told the officials.
District Collector RV Karnan informed that Pattana Pragathi has got underway in Khammam Municipal Corporation and three municipalities in the district. In all municipalities ward committees were formed and special officer was appointed.
Works identified by the committees would be completed on priority basis as part of the 10-day integrated planning. Pattana Pragathi would be executed in a successful manner with the same spirit with which Palle Pragathi was implemented, Collector Karnan hoped.
Later on the day the Minister and the officials have visited a vegetable and non-vegetarian market at NSP Camp, Basket Ball Indoor Stadium and double bedroom houses at YSR Nagar which were scheduled to be inaugurated by IT, MA&UD Minister KT Rama Rao on March 1.
