Tribal arrested for sheltering Maoists in Asifabad

Kumram Bheem Asifabad: A tribal was arrested for allegedly providing shelter and helping Maoists flee from Thokkuguda village in Tiryani mandal on Wednesday night when police parties were combing the area.

In-charge Superintendent of Police Vishnu S Warrier, in a press statement here on Thursday, said the accused, Kova Vasanth Rao, a native of Thokkuguda, was a Maoist sympathiser. He fed the extremists and offered shelter to them. He extended support to the five-member dalam that narrowly escaped from being caught by the police in the village on Tuesday. The squad had opened fire at the police parties before escaping.

Vasanth Rao was booked under sections 143,148,307,120(b), 121(A) of the Indian Penal Code, certain sections of Indian Arms Act and Section 50 of Explosives Substance Act and Sections 10, 13 and 20 of Unlawful Activities Prevention Act.

The squad led by Telangana State Committee Mailarepu Adellu alias Bhaskar, Varghesh, Mangu, Ajay and Ramu was moving in the forests of Tiryani mandal for the last few days. They managed to escape from several police parties carrying out combing operations in Gundala forest area in Tiryani mandal on July 14, following specific intelligence input.
