Hyderabad: TRS leaders lambasted the Congress leadership for obstructing the irrigation projects on one hand and shedding crocodile tears for lack of projects in their respective districts on the other hand. They demanded that TPCC working president Bhatti Vikramarka should tender unconditional apologies before he takes up any padayatra for irrigation projects in the State.
Notwithstanding the obstacles created by the Congress leaders, the government would complete the irrigation projects and bring one crore acre under cultivation, Agriculture Minister Pocharam Srinivas Reddy asserted at a press conference here on Saturday. “Around 13 lakh acre have been already freshly brought under cultivation in Telangana State. Unlike the previous Congress governments, the TRS would not waste public money by taking up projects without proper field study and fill its pockets,” he added.
The Minister pointed out that the Congress leaders have dug up canals for Pranahita project without obtaining proper permissions or planning. “We had to shift the project site as optimum usage of Godavari River water was only possible at Medigedda. The Kaleswaram Lift Irrigation Project was also redesigned for the same purpose,” the Minister said. He pointed out that due to lack of planning by the Congress government, about 255 tmc water from Pranahita was wasted into the sea during this rainy season, while lands under SRSP are getting parched for lack of water.
Reddy reiterated that Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao was implementing the projects with perfect planning and hence, the Congress leaders are obstructing the works or spreading rumours against them. “The Congress leaders very well know that if the TRS government succeeds, they will not have any future. Hence, they are obstructing the projects in the name of farmers protests and padayatras,” he said.
Srinivas Reddy affirmed that the Telangana government is committed for completing the works pertaining to Sriram Sagar Project (SRSP) rejuvenation without giving any scope for irregularities as per schedule. He said that the Telangana government will complete all projects which were abandoned by the Congress government after laying foundation stones. Only through rejuvenation of SRSP, water can be ensured for erstwhile districts of Nizamabad, Adilabad, Karimnagar and Warangal. “Congress leaders are trying to build artificial movements, only due to fear of their future survival. But these artificial fights cannot stop the steel determination of the Chief Minister. We will introduce first agriculture budget next year and also provide investment for farmers,” he said.
MLC and TRS official spokesperson Karne Prabhakar also ridiculed the Congress leaders for creating hurdles for irrigation projects on one hand and alleging that the government was not completing them. “During the 60-year-regime of Congress party, only 3-4 lakh acre were brought under cultivation under SRSP. But within three years after assuming power, the TRS government is now trying to rejuvenate the project and the Congress leades are unable to digest the same,” he criticised.
Prabhakar also rubbished the divisive politics of the Congress leaders over north and south Telangana. He said that the Chief Minister was trying to ensure optimum usage of river allocations for Telangana and hence, taking up adequate irrigation projects across the State. He demanded that TPCC working president Bhatti Vikramarka who is embarking on a ‘Padayatra’ should first apologise to people for obstructing the irrigation projects before touring the State for his political mileage.
