Warangal: Northern Power Distribution Company of Telangana Limited (TS-NPDCL) Chief General Manager (HRD) P Sandhya Rani and Company Secretary K Venkatesham received ‘SKOCH Order-of-Merit Award’ on Saturday at New Delhi during 52nd SKOCH Summit at Constitution Club of India, for initiating solar power production in the company’s jurisdiction.

TSNPDCL caters to power supply of 17 districts in Telangana by serving approximately 54.40 lakh consumers. Per capita energy consumption stands at 1,092 kwh. Telangana as a whole has solar power capacity of 3.3 GW and is one of the top three States in the country. TSNPDCL alone has a installed capacity of 893 MW of which 533 MW off-grid is connected. Due to implementation of round-the-clock power supply to agriculture sector in FY 2017-18 demand increased from 2,909 MW in 2016-17 to 3,445 MW in 2017-18.
Farmers are utilising power supply in day time mostly. The additional load during the day time for agriculture sector consumption is met from solar power generation and 669 MW of solar power capacity addition was achieved in FY 2017-18. This has helped TSNPDCL to meet the deficit of power in day time and also supported in extending round-the-clock power supply to all categories of consumers.
Advantages of the distributed generation model are- energy saved on an annual basis is around 122 MU (reduction in transmission loss), annual saving in Rs 49 crore, and additional investments to the tune of Rs 533 crore at Extended High Tension Power level avoided.
