Hyderabad: The State government was planning to export quality seeds to European countries following its emergence as the seed bowl of India, Agriculture Principal Secretary C Parthasarathi said here on Friday.
Addressing a meeting with German seed scientists and experts at Seeds Certification Agency, he said the State was fast establishing itself not only as the seed bowl for India but for the entire world. He explained to the German representatives that 60 per cent of the country’s seed requirement was being met by TS.
Parthasarathi said that the State had, last year, exported 1,700 tonnes of quality seed to Egypt, Sudan, Philippines and other countries. “We are planning to supply seeds to Germany this year and are working hard to get European Equivalence Certificate.”
Speaking at the meeting, Ohio University Agriculture scientist Professor Michael Kruze said there was a need for certified seeds in Germany. He appreciated the State government’s efforts to supply quality seed to other countries through Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) certification agency. OECD agency Director K Keshavaulu and other officials participated in the meeting.
