Hyderabad: To cut down its power bills, the Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC) is working towards installing LED lights at Bus Bhavan and bus depots in the city.

To this effect, the TSRTC has approached HUDCO for financial assistance of Rs134.33 lakh for replacing the conventional lights with LED lights.

Accordingly, the HUDCO has extended financial assistance and a cheque was handed over to TSRTC Vice-Chairman and Managing Director GV Ramana Rao.

The existing power consumption of Bus Bhavan and all bus depots in the city is 1,24,980 units, which amounts to nearly Rs12 lakh per month. By installing LED lights, authorities aim to reduce the power consumption by 50 per cent. This works to saving Rs 6 lakh a month.

LEDs have a lifespan of 60,000 burning hours compared to 1,500 burning hours of incandescent bulbs and 6,000 burning hours of fluorescent lights. Besides long life, LED lights reduce the maintenance costs drastically, authorities said.
