Hyderabad: The Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC) is seeking sponsors for issuing free buses to students studying in government schools across the State.
Though the TSRTC is providing free bus passes to government school students, it recently came to know that there were many students who were unable to raise even Rs 30 for the application form, following which the corporation decided to seek donations. The passes can be sponsored by any individual/ institution/ NGO interested in helping children who are unable to pay for themselves.
The issuance of free travel concession for the students below 12 years of age for both boys and girls in various institutes was started in the erstwhile Andhra Pradesh. Later, the RTC extended the facility for girls studying up to 10th standard in government schools or up to the age of 18 years. They can also travel free to any exam centre with the given free bus pass and SSC Hall Ticket.
Sudha Parimala, Divisional Manager, Secunderabad said the pass was valid for one year. The students need not go anywhere for applying for the bus pass as RTC employees will go to schools and give the applications to the principal, she said, adding that once the student got the pass, they could travel free in city ordinary buses to and from their residence to the school for one year.
According to TSRTC officials, around 60,000 students have taken free bus passes in Greater Hyderabad Zone last year and students from government schools need to apply for free passes before September.
Those interested in donations can contact depot managers, 9959226143 (Cantonment), 9959226150 (Jeedimetla), 9959226150 (Ranigunj 1) and 9959226147 (Ranigunj 2).
How to apply
A common application for obtaining bus passes will be issued by RTC employees to principals concerned. The application should contain details such as name, address, class and date of birth which need to be certified by the head of the school. The approved passes will later be distributed to the students.
