Two forest officials caught in Kothagudem taking bribe

Kothagudem: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) sleuths trapped two forest officials in Dummugudem mandal in Bhadradri Kothagudem district on Monday.

The accused, V Ramakrishna, Forest Beat Officer (FBO), Dummugudem and Vijaya Kumari, Forest Section Officer (FSO), Parnasala, were caught red-handed while accepting a bribe of Rs 30,000 from the complainant.

Khammam ACB DSP S Krishna Prasad told the media at Bhadrachalam that a contractor C Bapineedu had taken up the work of laying a CC road between Gouraram and Lingapuram in the mandal. But the FBO objected to the work saying transporting sand and other material in agency area without prior permission was not allowed. The contractor told the official that he had obtained all the required permissions.

Nonetheless, the FBO and the FSO demanded the contractor to pay Rs 50,000 as bribe to allow the works and the contractor agreed to pay Rs 30,000. Both Ramakrishna and Vijaya Kumari were taken into custody, the DSP said.

ACB CIs Ramana Murthy and Praveen Kumar took part in the operation.
