Hyderabad: The Hayathnagar police on Saturday arrested two persons, T Pichi Reddy and VN Srinivas Reddy, on charges of manufacturing spurious pesticides and distributing the same to farmers in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.

Following credible information on manufacture of spurious pesticides and distribution of the same to farmers projecting them as from original and branded pesticide companies at Peddamberpet area, the Special Operations Team along with the local police raided the premises and recovered a huge quantity of pesticides. Samples were collected and sent to the laboratory for testing whether they were genuine.

According to the police, Pichi Reddy, a native of Guntur District, earlier worked in a private firm before migrating to Hyderabad in 2015. Here, he stayed in the house of his relative Phani Reddy, who was running a pesticide marketing company styled as Victor Crop Science India Private Limited at Auto Nagar and another firm Siri Organics at Peddamberpet area.

“Eventually, his business ran into losses and while he was thinking to quit, Pichi Reddy along with Srinivas Reddy took over the business from him. They procured pesticides from firms in Khammam and distributed to various dealers, who further sold them to farmers,” police said.

During the process, some of the carton boxes with pesticides got damaged resulting in losses. “They started manufacturing spurious pesticides by labeling them as original pesticides and sold them,” officials said.
