Mancherial: Two notorious burglars were arrested by sleuths of Mancherial’s Central Crime Station in Ramakrishnapur on Thursday. Gold ornaments weighing 105 tolas, three silver coins, a motorcycle and Rs 24,000 in cash were seized from them, all put together amounting to Rs 3.13 lakh.
Producing the burglars before the media here, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Administration) N Ashok Kumar said the accused were Tekam Ramu, a daily wage earner from Kondapalli village in Rebbena mandal of Kumram Bheem Asifabad and Murimuri Ranjit, a vegetable vendor from Husnabad. The two were apprehended when they were moving suspiciously during a vehicle check held in Ramakrishnapur town.
During interrogation, the duo confessed to committing the offence to lead a lavish lifestyle after being addicted to liquor. They admitted that they had decamped with golden and silver ornaments from 30 houses in several parts of Mancherial, Kumram Bheem Asifabad, Prof Jayashankar Bhupalapalli, Warangal and Karimnagar districts, besides lifting two-wheelers too.
Ramu revealed that he was arrested earlier too. He disclosed that he had burgled seven houses in Mancherial and Warangal districts after being released from jail recently. He stated that Ranjith was helping him in disposing the gold and silver ornaments. He said that he befriended Ranjith when he was housed in Warangal prison.
Ashok Kumar patted D Ramana Babu, CCS Inspector and Ramakrishnapur Sub-Inspector K Ravi Prasad, ASI Nandagopal, head constable Sattaiah, constables Satheesh, Srinivas, Balakrishna, Sunil and Rajaiah for displaying spontaneity and arresting the burglars.
