Hyderabad: Skipper P Rohith Reddy slammed an unbeaten 181 (300b, 13×4, 9×6) while left-hander Tanay Thyagarajan (109; 12×4) continued his good form as Hyderabad took command against Uttar Pradesh on the penultimate day of the four-day plate Group B CK Nayudu under-23 fifth round match at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Uppal on Monday. Replying to UP’s first innings score of 234, Hyderabad posted a mammoth 579 in 176.1 overs. Trailing by 345 runs, UP were 13 for 2 in 8 overs.
However, it was Rohith and Thyagarajan who stole the third day’s play. Resuming at their overnight score of 269 for 6, Hyderabad lost PS Chaitanya Reddy in the day’s second over. Chaitanya added only one run to his overnight score of 90 before he fell to Vineet Paanwar.
Rohith, who was on 16, found an able partner in Thyagarajan. The two flayed the UP attack with a 221-run stand for the eighth wicket to put Hyderabad on top. Rohith got to his century off 169 balls and Hyderabad were 430 for 7 at lunch. Thyagarajan reached his second successive century off 133 balls. Boby Yadav finally broke the partnership by dismissing Thyagarajan. But Rohith went on to hammer the UP bowlers and remained unbeaten till the end.
UP lost opener Madhav Kaushik and Sonu Saini. Kaushik fell to medium pacer Pabba Nilesh while off-spinner Chaitanaya Reddy sent back Sonu Saini.
