Hyderabad: Chief Secretary SK Joshi appreciated UNICEF (United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund) for extending cooperation in preparing a plan for children’s development in urban areas in the State.
On Monday, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between Principal Secretary (Municipal Administration and Urban Development) Arvind Kumar, ASCI Director V Srinivas Acharyalu and UNICEF representative Dr Yasmin Ali Haque on ‘Child Development in Urban Areas’ in the presence of the Chief Secretary.
Joshi said UNICEF and ASCI would submit their workable plan related to education, health, security, hygiene of urban children within a week. “UNICEF has lots of experience, and we will prepare the plan for the development of urban children in the country for the first time,” he said.
Importance should be given to the child-friendly agenda in the urban areas integrated development plan, he said.
“We will lay focus on the development of children in urban areas and establish a long-term plan to solve problems. Special focus should be on medical counselling, personal hygiene, safety and transportation facilities for the child,” he said.
UNICEF representatives, who attended the meeting, praised services provided to the people in the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) limits by the corporation. They also discussed schemes such as Mission Bhagiratha, ODF and others, according to a press release.
