Hyderabad: The School of Engineering Sciences and Technology (SEST), University of Hyderabad (UoH), has been awarded an Indo-German bilateral collaborative research project under the 2+2 scheme to work on the development of light-weight spring steels for automotive applications by Indo-German Science & Technology Centre.
The SEST will be collaborating with the giant steel manufacturer, JSW steels as an industrial partner from Indian side and University of Siegen (USI) and Muhr and Bender KG (MUBEA) are the academic and industrial partners from the German side respectively, according to a press release.
JSW steels would be making the appropriate steel grades required for light-weight automotive springs in continuous collaboration with UoH and USI. Once the optimal microstructure and targeted mechanical properties are met, MUBEA will take up the manufacturing of springs for commercial applications.
Since its inception, SEST has been involved in high-end fundamental research work that would eventually result in an end product and in this project, it would receive a grant of Rs 1.52 crores for the next three years. Dr. Koteswara Rao V Rajulapati Associate Professor SEST, would be coordinating as Principal Investigator from the Indian academic side, UoH, the release added.
