Vidarbha lifts U-23 cricket title

Earlier, Vidarbha's PR Rekhade’s four wickets with the ball helped them restrict Delhi to a modest 211 in 50 overs. Skipper Lalit Yadav (65) and Sumit Mathur (52) scored half-centuries while the rest of the batting flopped in the final.

Hyderabad: Following in the footsteps of their Ranji Trophy team, Vidarbha Under-23 team dished out an impressive performance to beat Delhi by four wickets and secure the Under-23 One Day League and Knockout Tournament in the final held at Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium, Uppal on Friday.

Earlier, Vidarbha’s PR Rekhade’s four wickets with the ball helped them restrict Delhi to a modest 211 in 50 overs. Skipper Lalit Yadav (65) and Sumit Mathur (52) scored half-centuries while the rest of the batting flopped in the final.

Chasing 212 runs, Vidarbha reached the target in 48.2 overs with wicket-keeper batsman PM Parnate shining with an unbeaten 88.  Parnate and Nayan R Chavan (48) put on a 103-run stand for the third wicket to help Vidarbha clinch the title. Delhi pacer Kuldip Yadav bagged four wickets in a lost cause.

Brief scores:  Delhi 211 in 50 overs (Lalit Yadav 65, Sumit Mathur 52, PR Rekhade 4/33) lost to Vidarbha 215/6 in 48.2 overs (PM Parnate 88no, Kuldip Yadav 4/37).
