Hyderabad: A video of a group of men running with a ‘mysterious black coloured trunk’ that was unloaded from the helicopter that Prime Minister Narendra Modi was travelling in, and loading the box into a waiting car has gone viral with questions being asked on what was in the box and what the incident was all about. The incident happened in Chitradurga, Karnataka, where Modi had arrived to address a BJP campaign meeting, according to Srivatsa, who first posted the video on Twitter. Srivatsa’s profile describes him as a ‘national campaign in-charge’ for the Indian National Congress party.
The 15-second video (https://twitter.com/srivatsayb/status/1116952395588808704) was tweeted on April 12 by @srivatsayb and has since been retweeted more than 5,000 times.
Srivatsa in his tweet said: “Suspicious box was offloaded from the PM’s helicopter in Chitradurga, Karnataka today. It was rushed to a waiting Innova, which then sped away. The question is, why was the box not part of security protocol? Why wasn’t the Innova part of PM’s convoy? Whose car was it?”
A second tweet shows the car speeding away while a third has images of the trunk being offloaded from a helicopter. The incident was also reported initially by ‘TimesNow’ news television network but according to Srivatsa, the network removed the tweet with its report soon after.

Many of the responses to the original tweet with the video alluded to cash being carried illegally while some joked about some secret equipment to tamper with EVMs. Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee president Dinesh Gundu Rao in a tweet wanted the Election Commission to inquire “into what was in the box and to whom the vehicle belonged.”
The Janata Dal-Secular party too wanted to know why ECI officials who “enthusiastically checked CM HD Kumaraswamy’s car multiple times in a day,” were not “concerned about the mysterious box that was shipped from PM’s helicopter to a private car.”
While an ‘ABP News’ report quoting unnamed Special Projection Group officials said the trunk contained equipment related to Prime Minister’s security, Congress party leader and former Union Minister Anand Sharma on Sunday dismissed this saying the vehicle in which the box was taken away, did not form part of the SPG carcade.
He also demanded an immediate probe by ECI into the incident. Meanwhile, BJP spokesperson GVL Narasimha Rao was quoted, also by ‘ABN News’ on the issue where he, in turn, wanted to know what right the Congress had to speak about the incident when it was under a cloud of corruption charges. Narasimha Rao, at least in the ABP report, did not address the matter as to what the box was all about or what it contained.
