“We have been making our own TVs under the Daiwa brand along with Telefunken and Shinco. We have our research and development centres in India and China and our manufacturing unit in Greater Noida has an overall capacity of one million units with 50 per cent utilisation,” said Arjun Bajaaj, director, Videotex Groups.

Current trends

The recent Coronavirus-induced lockdown has seen a spike in sales of televisions and in this Smart TVs are seeing higher sales. However, Bajaaj informs that the company’s manufacturing unit saw a lot of challenges which include manpower and labour issues. “We had to hire new workers because of the migrant movement, but slowly and steadily we are moving back to normalcy,” he said.

The anti-China has impacted many brands and has led to a spike in sales for India-made brands. Bajaaj informs that the trend going ahead is for smart TVs and sees almost 60-70 per cent sales of TVs happening in India to be of Smart TVs.
