Vighnesh, Shashank clinch top honours

Both Vighnesh and Virinch had six points for the top position but the former was declared in the tie-breaker. Sai Maneendra, with five points, took the third place.

Winners of the 133rd Brilliant Chess tournament in city on Sunday.

Hyderabad: R Vighnesh of Tactica Chess Academy emerged champion after edging out Virinchi in the tie-breaker in the junior category of the 133rd Brilliant Trophy Open Chess Championship on Sunday.

Both Vighnesh and Virinch had six points for the top position but the former was declared in the tie-breaker. Sai Maneendra, with five points, took the third place.

In the open category, D Naga Shashank maintained a clean slate with six points form six rounds for the top place while K Sarat Chandra took the second place with 5.5 points. P Satyanarayand, with five points, stood at the third.
