Hyderabad: Lumbini Park on Tuesday turned out to be ‘selfie’ spot with a colourful collection of vintage and classic cars and motorcycles. Organised as part of Independence Day celebrations, the event had around 75 cars and 90 motorcycles with the range starting from 1920 vintage car to latest BMW bike.

A proud owner of ‘Premier President’ car, 81-year-old R Sudhakar Rao said the car was bought by his father in the year 1972. “It was in the market only for one year as it was later renamed as Premier Padmini. For the last 45 years, I have been using this car regularly in the city with all documents,” he said.

Sudhakar Rao also owns eight vintage cars and five motor cycles and said the maintenance of these vehicles entails lot of effort and money.  It was a yellow ‘Austin 7’ car of 1922 that caught the attention of most visitors and had many clicking selfies posing with the car. Akhil Raj, the restorer of Austin 7 said “It was an imported car from England and its speciality is that it runs with the magnetic engine without a battery”.

Deccan Heritage Automobile Association (DHAA) secretary, Anirudh Vijay Kumar said, “this a regular event being organised every year on August 15 and January 26 for last one decade and is also aimed at saving vintage cars in Hyderabad”.
