Visakhapatnam: A new app would be made available shortly wherein the problems of women would be informed to police by just pressing a button, AP Home Minister Mekathoti Sucharita announced here on Thursday.
Addressing an awareness programme on `Women’s safety in cyberspace’, an initiative by the Andhra Pradesh police which aims to enlighten women on overcoming the challenges of cyber crimes which they faced on daily basis, she felt that they should realise that the enemy lay with them in the form of mobile phone and exercise caution. Technology had also brought along with increased problems and personal information was reaching criminals through cellular phone without our knowledge, which resulted in blackmail and threats from criminals, leading even to suicide by women, she lamented.
“It is in this background the new government in Andhra Praesh has set up `Cyber Mitra’ soon after it came to power. Chief Minister YS Jaganmohan reddy who worked with the sole aim of women’s safety, has chosen women for the posts of a Deputy Chief Minister and Home Minister,” she pointed out.
Women and Child Welfare Minister Taneti Vanita, Director General of Police Gautam Sawang, Andhra University Vice-Chancellor PGVD Prasad Reddy and others attended the programme.
