Visakhapatnam: Visakhapatnam airport continues to be a hub of activity notwithstanding COVID-19 situation with movement of nearly 500 passengers daily on the average.
In July this year, with 42,095 passenger traffic and 526 flights, it was way ahead of Vijayawada (20,624-434), Rajahmundry (8,699-432) and Tirupati (11,040-228).
According to Andhra Pradesh Air Travellers’ Association spokesman O. Naresh Kumar, daily flights are operated in the morning and afternoon to Hyderabad, Bangalore and Delhi and in the afternoon to Chennai.
Flights to Kolkata, Tirupati and Mumbai are available four days in a week.
“The issue of overcrowding of passengers in the bus from the aircraft point to the exit gate was also brought to the notice of the AAI Director and we suggested that the passengers be restricted to seating capacity of the bus and they also be allowed to walk from the aircraft point to the exit gate to avoid overcrowding. The director readily agreed to consider this,” he revealed.
Naresh Kumar also said that the N5 taxi track would be ready in another 45 days and the terminal building expansion work is in progress, and after completion of the works, Vizag airport would be able to witness more operations.
