Creative campaign: Rangoli contest with the theme ‘Voter Registration and Right to Vote’ was held at Government Polytechnic College in Wanaparthy on Tuesday.

Wanaparthy: It was like a festival in Wanaparthy town on Tuesday as hundreds of women and girls painted Government Polytechnic College ground with vibrant colours during a rangoli contest conducted by the district administration on the theme ‘Voter Registration and Right to Vote’.

Women from across the district made fabulous rangoli designs braving the scorching heat on Tuesday noon. District Collector Sweta Mohanty went from design to design, appreciating the talent of rural women.

Many women brought their families, who assisted them in creating unique rangoli designs. Many designs were apt for the theme and had slogans in Telugu like ‘Note is bad, vote is dear’, ‘Voting is my birth right’, ‘My voice, my vote’, ‘Let us walk together, let us vote together’ and so on.

One of the attractive designs was the one prepared by differently-abled community which had a person going to vote on a wheelchair and a person assisting the former to reach the polling booth. The slogan with the rangoli design read: ‘Physical disability doesn’t stop you from voting. You need to have a will to vote’.
