Warangal Urban: The Intezarganj police arrested four members of an inter-State attention diversion robbers’ gang near Devi theatre in the city on Monday. They also recovered Rs 80,300, gold ornaments worth about Rs 25,000 and three cell phones from them.
The accused have been identified Mutta Jnanavel, Madan Shakthi alias Satti, Chandru Kumar and Sundar Jagadeeswaran. All the accused are natives of Srirangam mandal of Tiruchirappalli district of Tami Nadu.
Presenting them before media at his office, Police Commissioner V Ravinder said that the police were on job to nab five other members including the leader of the gang, Sundarajan, who managed escape.
“While the gang committed offences by diverting the attention of the people at several places in the country, they had committed six offences under Warangal police commissionerate limits since March 2017,” the CP added.
The modus operandi of the gang was to divert the attention of the target by throwing currency in front of the vehicle and run away with briefcase or the bag containing cash or jewellrey that was kept in the vehicle.
They generally chose public places like bus station, railway station, and bank premises for the offence. “On March 28, the gang members had stolen the bag containing Rs 1 lakh cash from the car of Devi theartre’s owner Bollam Sukesh Kumar by diverting his attention in the same way at Maternity Hospital in Hanamkonda,” the CP said.
Police commissioner said that they had kept tight vigil on the bus stations, railway station and other public places after learning about the gang through the CCTV footage and nabbed the gang while it was trying to commit another offence before going to their native place. The CP appreciated the police who nabbed the gang.
