Warangal Urban: The government Chest and TB hospital is all likely to turn into a general hospital, even a super specialty hospital soon, thanks to the efforts of the local MLA Dasyam Vinay Bhaskar and Karimnagar MP B Vinod Kumar.

Located in 11 acres of land right opposite to the Kakatiya University campus on Hanamkonda-Karimnagar highway, the 100-bedded Chest and TB (Tuberculosis) hospital has been in neglect for the last several years. Though a government order (GO 37) sanctioning Rs 16 crore was released in 2014 for the upgradation of the hospital, nothing concrete was done in that regard.

However, Warangal West MLA D Vinay Bhaskar and Karimnagar MP B Vinod Kumar visited the hospital recently and discussed with the officials about converting the hospital into a general hospital as it would also reduce the burden on the Mahatma Gandhi Memorial (MGM) hospital in the city. They have also opined that there is a need for the construction of the new buildings as the existing buildings are in dilapidated condition as it was set up in 1956.

Speaking to Telangana Today, MLA Vinay Bhaskar said that he had already taken up the issue with the Health Minister C Laxma Reddy and IT and MAUD Minister KT Rama Rao who had positively responded to the proposal of conversion of the hospital.

“I, along with district MLAs, am going to meet the Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao very soon to urge him to take immediate steps for the conversion of the TB and Chest hospital,” Vinay Bhaskar added.

He said that Chief Minister was keen on upgrading all the government hospitals situated in district headquarters to super specialty hospitals and the TB Center will also be considered for conversion.

Resident Medical Officer (RMO) Dr Ravi Kumar Pasula said that the Chest and TB hospital can be converted into a 350- bedded hospital. “Even super specialty wings like cardiothoracic and nephrology can also be set up at the hospital,” he added. If a new hospital comes, it would not only benefit people of the district, but also the people of the other neighbouring districts.
