Hyderabad: Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao has urged Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (PGCIL) to complete the powerline works to connect Southern States with the North East West (NEW) Grid for coordinated power management in the country.

“Once connectivity is established between the Southern States and the NEW Grid, it will be possible to coordinate the demand and supply of power all over the country,” the Chief Minister pointed out to PGCIL Chairman IS Jha, who called on him along with other officials at Pragathi Bhavan on Tuesday.

PGCIL officials assured the Chief Minister that the powerline works between Wardha in Maharashtra and Dichpally in Nizamabad would be completed by March this year when the latter urged them to ensure its completion to facilitate power supply from Chhattisgarh to Telangana State. “If the 765 KV double-circuit line of 4,500 Mw capacity is completed, Telangana State will be able to get power supply from Chhattisgarh,” the Chief Minister said.

He also urged the officials to take up works on the Warangal-Varora (Maharashtra) powerline immediately. If the two lines – Wardha-Dichpally and Warangal-Varora – are completed, then power can be received and supplied between the Southern Grid and the NEW Grid. As a result, there will be coordination among various places in the country, Rao observed.

Meanwhile, the PGCIL also expressed its interest to invest in transmission projects in the State. The Chief Minister directed officials from the State Electricity Department to hold talks with PGCIL officials in this regard. Besides Jha, Deputy Chief Minister Mohammed Mahmood Ali, Principal Advisor Rajiv Sharma, Chief Secretary SP Singh, PGCIL southern region ED Sekhar, TSGenco CMD D Prabhakar Rao and other officials were present at the meeting.
