The Union Cabinet approved the Digital Personal Data Protection Bill (DPDP) on Wednesday
The bill will be tabled in the upcoming Monsoon session of the parliament that will begin on July 20 and continue till August 11
On July 5, Cabinet approved Digital Personal Data Protection Bill
The bill aims to protect personal data and the need to process personal data for lawful purpose
The updated version of the bill will focus on personal data and exclude non-personal data
The new bill also suggests replacing the existing Data Protection Authority with an appellate body called the Data Protection Board
Under the new bill, companies are liable to pay penalties of up to Rs 500 crore for failing to prevent personal data breaches
However, the full details of the bill will be revealed only after it is tabled in the parliament
