The Mallikarjuna Swamy Temple at Cheriyal in Siddipet district has turned a shade of turmeric to mark the beginning of Telangana's popular festival, the Komuravelli Mallanna Jatara

The temple has been witnessing a huge number of devotees thronging its premises right from Saturday night, ahead  of 'Patnam Varam'

The first Sunday after Sankranti, called 'Patnam Varam', is considered auspicious in Telangana

The event has been organised under the aegis of Hyderabad Yadava Sangham, in collaboration with the Mallikarjuna Swamy Temple managament

Events like 'Agnigundam' and 'Pedda Patnam' were organised on Monday on a grand scale with a lot of devotion and fanfare

The festival saw devotees smearing themselves with turmeric and also sprinkling it on others on Patnam Varam, along with Bonalu

These sacred rituals are  a vital part of the Jatara and enable the devotees to fulfil their vows to Lord Mallanna

Devotees also visited the temples of Balija Medalamma and Golla Kethamma, along with Mallikarjuna Swamy Temple

The 12-week-long Mallanna Jatara will last till the Sunday before Ugadi
