Nizamabad: The government is struggling to fulfill its goals such as providing free higher education to all, increasing economic stability of people and achieving poverty alleviation, said retired IAS officer A Ramlakshman. To reach these goals, Welfare Department and its officials have a tremendous responsibility, he said. On Thursday, Ramlakshman, who is Welfare Advisor to the government, conducted a meeting with officials of the Welfare Department to discuss issues plaguing the SC, ST, BC, and minority communities.

The meeting was held at the office of the DRDA Project Director.

He asked Welfare Department officials to observe the lifestyle and sowing methods of the beneficiaries who obtain land under land distribution schemes.

Ramlakshman said the government is distributing 4,700 cores worth of Aasara pension funds to 36 lakh beneficiaries in the State, including 3.7 lakh beneficiaries in Nizamabad district.

He also asked the officials to provide skill development programmes in villages to rural youth in order to improve their technical skills and to help them obtain employment.

Hostel wardens and Welfare Department officials should focus on providing better facilities at all hostels and club SC, ST and BC hostels wherever student strength is low, he said.

Ramlakshman also visited Namdevwada and Borgaom hostels and the BC Study Circle to inspect the facilities being provided there.
