Hyderabad: In a gruesome murder that appears to have all the trappings of animal sacrifice and sorcery, the body of a 70-year-old woman was found in her house at Pochampally of Yadadri district here late on Thursday night. The woman was found dead with her mouth stuffed with animal entrails, and the entire body, including the face, smeared with vermilion and oil. Initial indications are that she was throttled to death.

Police, who are verifying whether the woman, identified as A Mallamma, was killed as part of a sorcery act, said she was alone in the house, while her children lived in Hyderabad. Her son works at Ramoji Film City, while her four daughters too live in the city.

“She mostly stays with her son in Hyderabad and used to go once in a month to the house to collect her old-age pension. She would then stay back for about 10 days,” the police said.
Recently for Diwali, her son too accompanied her and was at the house for a couple of days and left the day after the festival. According to the Pochampally police, Mallamma was last seen by locals on Thursday around 7 pm  while she was returning from the nearby market.

The killers are believed to have entered the house when she was alone and throttled her. They stuffed the animal intestines in her mouth and smeared vermilion and oil on her face and body, the police said.

A neighbour who found her dead around 10 pm informed the police. They inspected the crime scene, along with the Dog Squad and the CLUES team.

“We are also inquiring on recent animal sacrifices. No concrete evidence has been found yet. We are suspecting it to be the work of locals. All angles are being probed, including whether if it was an act of black magic,”

Pochampally police officials, who have booked a murder case, said. The body was, meanwhile, shifted to the local government hospital and was later handed over to her family after the autopsy on Friday.
