Hyderabad: A woman from Odisha, working in a brick kiln in Maheshwaram on the city outskirts, was allegedly gang-raped by four men late in the night on Friday.
The victim and the offenders, who were also from Odisha, lived in the same neighbourhood here apart from the working in the same brick kiln, police said, adding that the 28-year-old woman was married with two children. She was living with her family in a temporary hut on the kiln premises.
According to the police, she had gone out to relieve herself in the nearby bushes, when the gang waylaid her, dragged her into a secluded place nearby and raped her. The incident came to light when she returned home and told her family members about the ordeal.
She identified her attackers as Rahul, Manoj, Durga and Dayamagi, all of whom have gone absconding now.
Following a complaint from her, the Maheshwaram police have registered a case of gang-rape and are investigating. “The suspects are daily wage labourers from the same neighbourhood,” police said, adding that efforts were on to identify and nab them. Footage from surveillance cameras in the area was also being examined to track their whereabouts.
