With gyms closed, film stars such as Alia Bhatt, Katrina Kaif, Tamannaah Bhatia, Rakul Preet, Samantha Akkineni, Raashi Khanna and Pooja Hegde have been sharing videos of how they are working out at home.

Kuldep Sethi, director of 360 Degree Fitness and celebrity trainer, says that exercising, meditating and eating clean food is the best way to have a healthy immune system and even fight mental health issues like depression and anxiety. “People in lockdown are taking in more calories than usual and not burning them as gyms and fitness centres are closed. Due to loneliness, mental health issues are increasing as well.

Run or take a walk every day in your street. If you’re 50 plus, you can walk for 45 mins and jog for 30 mins everyday. Youngsters can set their own limits. Since it’s summer, make sure you exercise before 9 am or after 6 pm as you may get dehydrated,” says Kuldep.

Since celebs have gym equipment at home, it’s probably easier for them to work out. “Spot running, jumping jacks, planks, push-ups, squats, bicycle abs, split jumping, mountain climbers, crunches and burpees are some exercises you can do at home without equipment.

They help you build up your immunity and reduce weight. You can repeat these exercises every day and still get great results,” says Kuldep and adds, “Meditate every day for 15 mins by closing your eyes, chanting Om and focussing on your breathing.”

Recently, Tamannaah had used fruits like watermelon and musk melon as weights to work out at home. Kuldep says that one can even use water bottles and water cans as weights. He warns, “Use fitness apps to track your progress.

Don’t overdo it as you’re not in the presence of an expert. There are many unprofessional people asking others to join their online classes on fitness. Please check their credibility as you may end up hurting yourself.”
