YSRCP govt to come out with new sand policy

Amaravati: There will be not be any illegal sand mining in Andhra Pradesh from now on, AP Panchayat Raj, Rural Development and Mines Minister Peddireddi Ramachandra Reddy announced here on Tuesday.

Talking to reporters at the Secretariat, he said that sand mafia ruled during the previous Telugu Desam Party Government and looted sand worth several thousands of crores with impunity and the Government was put to tremendous loss due to faulty decisions of Chandrababu Naidu.

“From today, we have issued orders to stop all sand transport till the new sand policy is announced. Our Chief Minister YS Jagan has directed bringing in a new policy on sand transport and we hope to introduce it before July 1. Until then, it was decided to stop all sand quarrying and stringent action will be taken against those who resort to smuggle the natural resource, under PD Act, he warned.

In this context, he recalled that a woman MRO was beaten up by TDP leaders for stopping illegal sand mining in the past. Action would be taken on officials as well if sand smuggling is allowed, “They have looted sand in lakhs of lorry loads. The sand ramp has come down from
202 to 116 metres level,” he pointed out.
