Karimnagar: Zilla Parishad general body meeting was cancelled due to lack of quorum. According to ZP norms, a meeting should be held every three months to discuss various issues to facilitate decisions.
As part of the rule, Zilla Parishad officials organised general body on Thursday. Except officials of various government departments, no member attended the meeting which began at around 11 am in the morning.
After waiting for quorum for half-an-hour, ZP chief executive officer Venkata Madhavarao announced that meeting was canceled due to lack of quorum and informed that another date for meeting will be announced later.
Besides two co-option members, there are 57 each of Zilla Parishad Territorial Constituency (ZPTC) and Mandal Parishad Territorial Constituency (MPTC) in the House. No member turned out for the meeting.
Election code and ongoing election for ZPTCs and MPTCs were the reasons for members to staying away from the meeting. It is not possible to take new decisions and pass resolutions in the wake of election code.
Since the term of the existing ZP is going to end on July 5, members have not shown interest in attending the meeting. Another meeting is likely to be organised either first or last week of June, ZP source said.
As part of formation new districts, ZPTC and MTPCs of old Karimnagar district have been merged in seven newly formed districts. Elections for ZPTCs and MPTCs have been organised separately and new ZP parishads would be formed after elections. –
