Sindhu and Sharath led a 117-member Indian contingent, with 78 participating in the Opening Ceremony in Paris on Friday, as India aimed to surpass their best-ever performance of seven medals from the previous Tokyo Games.

The event began with Greek representatives leading athletes from nearly 200 countries in the Parade of Nations on boats along the river.
