On September 9, India banned the export of broken rice with immediate effect. The export policy for the commodity was revised from "free" to "prohibited".

20 per cent export duty on select rice varieties was imposed exempting basmati and parboiled rice out of the duty purview.

"Export policy of broken rice ...is amended from ‘Free' to ‘Prohibited'," the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) said in a notification dated September 8, 2022.
