The Telangana Drug Control Administration found violations in 193 medical shops during inspections aimed at curbing antibiotic misuse and raising awareness on Antimicrobial Resistance. Show cause notices were issued for selling antibiotics without prescriptions and not maintaining regulatory records.
Of the 4,838 prescriptions collected, 475 (which is 9.81%) had unacceptable deviations and the total number of drugs prescribed in these prescriptions was 1,696, which accounted for 3.5 drugs per prescription, the study said.
