Kerala-born urban planner Nithya Raman has been projected as the winner of the Los Angeles mayoral election, defeating incumbent Karen Bass. Raman, who built her political career around housing and homelessness issues, is set to become Los Angeles' first Asian American mayor after securing about 53% of the vote. She will take office in December.
