Friends of Snakes Society and the Forest Department rescued seven snakes, including four Spectacled Cobras, from snake charmers in Hyderabad ahead of Nagapanchami. Officials urged citizens not to encourage snake charmers and warned against feeding milk to captive snakes.
For the past year or so, the FOSS has been advocating the need to make notification of snake bites mandatory. “By rough estimates, we can say that there are 66,000 snake bite cases annually in India.
